We were motivated to write this book based on a gap we noted in the discipline of project management, a gap which is slowly closing but still exists. We were happily surprised when the book won the 2011 Cleland Award for literature from the Project Management Institute.
If you are an educator, especially in the curricula of engineering, business, or project management, you may find that this book fills a commensurate gap in your educational materials. Project managers are - by nature - short-term thinkers. This book provides a rationale and several tools and techniques to open the blinders and extend the timeline thinking of project managers.
If you are a practitioner, you may find, as we did when we wrote it, that there is still a lot to learn in our discipline of project management.
